Step One: Identify What's Most Important to You

In this module, we focus on identifying and defining your core values – those non-negotiable principles that guide your behavior and decisions as a coach. Your values are what you hold most important, and understanding them is essential to shaping your leadership or Coaching Philosophy.

Each coach or leader has unique values that influence how they approach their role. For some, it’s about never compromising the quality of a practice session, while others might prioritize contribution or achieving significant milestones. The important thing is to recognize what you value, as well as what you don’t, and to align your actions with these principles.

Through this module, you’ll explore how your values influence your Coaching Philosophy. You’ll complete an activity to help prioritize your top five values. The values listed within the activity will serve as a guide, but you’re welcome to add any values you feel strongly about, making this exercise entirely personal.

Once you’ve defined your values, the next step is to reflect on how they impact your coaching behavior and decision-making. Remember, others may have different values, leading to varied Coaching Philosophies. There’s no “right” or “wrong” set of values, but some approaches may be more effective in creating long-term, sustainable success.
